Birmingham, Guernsey County, Ohio : ウィキペディア英語版 | Birmingham, Guernsey County, Ohio
Birmingham is an unincorporated community in southeastern Monroe Township, Guernsey County, Ohio, United States. It lies at the intersection of Beal, Birmingham, and Peoli Roads, south of Peoli, 7 miles (11¼ km) east-northeast of Kimbolton, and northeast of central Cambridge, the county seat of Guernsey County. Nearby streams flow southward into Salt Fork Lake, which is included in Salt Fork State Park.〔DeLorme. ''Ohio Atlas & Gazetteer''. 7th ed. Yarmouth: DeLorme, 2004, p. 61. ISBN 0-89933-281-1.〕 Birmingham was platted in 1826 by William Carson, who named it New Birmingham. When the community was granted a post office that name could not be used as there was another New Birmingham in Ohio, so the name was changed to Milnersville, honoring one of the earliest settlers in the community, but was subsequently changed to Birmingham. On December 10, 1874 Birmingham was incorporated as a village; at that time there were two general stores, a doctor's office, drug store, tavern, blacksmith shop, Masonic temple, municipal building, saddle and harness shop, furniture and coffin maker, and even an organ factory, and the population numbered over 200. However, in the early 20th century the population decreased significantly; by 1940 the population was only 67, and today it is but a handful - too few in fact to be enumerated in the census. == References == 〔
